Coconut Times was founded in 1985 by artist and avid surfer Scott Harrington. It was sold to Royette Tarry Shepherd of Hooper’s Restaurant who then sold it to Tammy Trattner Knowles. In 1999, the paper was sold to Brenda Golden, who has continued the tradition of featuring original artwork on the cover and the exclusive feature called Barhopping, written by bartenders from all the top clubs and restaurants in the area.
