Longtime customers Carey and Beverly Flynn became the new owners of 707 Sports Bar & Grille in 2010.

“We make it good, so you’ll keep coming back,” says the new owner of 707 Sports Bar & Grille, Beverly Flynn. She and her husband, Carey, purchased the sports bar in 2010. Prior to that, they were regular customers at 707, so the happy couple knows exactly what works and what improvements could be made. For instance, the new owners have added private flat screen televisions to each booth, so customers can channel into whichever sports actions interests you the most. And, the Flynns also installed solar shades to the restaurant’s front windows to fully control the glare and amount of light entering the venue. However, some things never change. 707 Sports Bar & Grille remains the headquarters for Pittsburgh Steelers fans and their tailgate parties.
707 is conveniently located in West Ocean City on Old Bridge Road—just a hop, skip and a jump from the Route 50 Bridge. The restaurant’s locally famous burgers have always been a top seller, and now Chef Shane is preparing steak and seafood dishes using only the freshest ingredients. “Shane prides himself on the eye-catching presentation of his dishes,” explains Beverly. I had the opportunity to sample some of Shane’s cuisine this week when I visited 707 Sports Bar & Grille with my favorite arm candy, Kristi Kruger. We were delighted to meet the gracious new owners, and we were pleased to see some familiar faces still on staff, such as Jenny, our server. Jenny is such a professional that she remembered what I ordered two years ago when she waited on me.
Not only does 707 offer affordable, competitive prices on all their recipes, seven days a week, but also the restaurant offers discounts and specials every day. Every Monday, you can enjoy half-priced N.Y. Strip, which is twelve ounces of hand-cut choice, grilled to your liking. Tuesdays are Mexican nights with discounts on tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, burritos, and more. Wednesday is quite a deal with half-priced entrees. The crowds fill up 707 each Thursday night for half-priced burgers. Friday and Saturday night present weekend dinner specials that are not on the menu, such as Sirloin Filet; Pan Seared Scallops on a bed of mango salsa; and Chicken Breast wrapped in prosciutto and stuffed with spinach, tomatoes, and cream cheese. Each Sunday is Pasta night, offering delectable creations like Seafood Lasagna, Meatball Marinara, and Calamari, Mussels, and Clams in a citrus butter sauce over linguini. Burgers are half-priced during NASCAR broadcasts. Additionally, 707 Sports Bar & Grille offers $4.99 lunch specials and happy hour every day from 4:00 until 7:07. Keno, pool tables, and other bar games keep the crowds entertained, too.
Kristi and I started our meal with an order of Garlic Mussels. Two-dozen juicy mussels are served in a tomato broth with bread for dipping. Naturally, we ate every last one. The Crab Dip and Nachos are best-selling appetizers on the 707 menu. Wings, Calamari, Steamed Shrimp, Seafood Skins, Seared Ahi Tuna, and BBQ Scallops Wrapped in Bacon are a few more mouth-watering starter dishes. I recommend the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms. The sports bar also serves up a variety of fries and pizzas.
Many of the soup and salad options rotate with the season, but a permanent fixture on the menu is the award-winning Maryland Crab Soup. Chili, Chicken Noodle and French Onion soup are each a fantastic way to warm up on a cool spring day. Taco and Caesar salads are delicious, and a variety of tuna and chicken salad options top off the salad menu.
Sliders, burgers and quesadillas abound at 707. Peppers and guacamole are fresh and homemade for the Seafood, Chicken, Veggie, Cheese, and Hamburger Quesadillas. The hot dogs at 707 are a quarter pound of all-beef goodness, served with kraut, chili and cheese, mushrooms and Swiss, or sautéed onions. Sliders are available in orders of three, six, nine, or twelve, and include Cheeseburger, Boneless Rib, Chicken, Cheesesteak, Sloppy Joe, or Roast Beef.
The locally famous burgers at 707 are prepared in 21 varieties! My personal favorite is the Black & Bleu Burger—a blackened burger topped with bleu cheese. I also recommend the Country Fried Burger, which is breaded, deep fried, and topped with mushroom gravy. Other burgers worth trying are the Jalapeño Burger, Salsa Burger, Chili Burger, and Poppy Melt. Customers with big appetites should also try The Captain, The Hog, or The Ham Burger.
Congratulations to 707 Sports Bar and Grille, and Chef Shane, for winning second place at the 2010 Ocean City Cheesesteak Competition. Served on a sub roll, the award-winning cheesesteak includes steak or chicken and fried onions and melted provolone. Ham, beef, chicken, and flounder options are ample on the sandwich and grinders menu. Seafood lovers should try the Crab Cake or Soft Shell Crab sandwiches.
For our entrees, Kristi and I both wanted to try the Crab Cake. Kristi ordered a combo dish—a 1/2 rack of ribs with a lump crab cake. Other combo options are the 1/2 rack of ribs with chicken or fried shrimp. I selected the Crab Cakes, which are comprised of jumbo lump crab, lightly broiled, and topped with thyme aioli. Tuna Steak, Broiled Scallops, and Beef Liver & Onions are a few more entrées on the menu. Pasta lovers will find a plethora of selections on the 707 menu. Seafood Alfredo, Seafood Penne Pasta, Shrimp Scampi, Linguini & Clams, and Chicken or Veal Parmigana are just a few options. The Chicken Saltimbocca is pan-seared chicken breast topped with fresh sage, prosciutto, Swiss cheese, and lemon caper sauce. Veal Marsala and Chicken Marsala complete the entrée selections, all of which are served with vegetable of the day and your choice of homemade garlic mashed potatoes, roasted red potatoes, or French fries. Kristi and I each added a dinner salad to our entrée.
As promised, the presentation of our meals was impeccable. The crab cakes were scrumptious, and we were quite impressed with our dinner at 707. Clearly, the new owners and chef take pride in using fresh ingredients and creating homemade recipes. A “little league” menu keeps the restaurant kid friendly. A new menu will debut in June and will offer additional dishes, such as fried chicken.
In addition to homemade recipes, 707 Sports Bar & Grille is an entertainment haven. Live bands perform on Friday nights, and Saturday is karaoke night. Monday is tavern poker night, and Tuesday offers $2 imports. Stop by 707 Sports Bar & Grille to catch all the sports broadcasting action, and stay for a home cooked meal. Like the new owner, Beverly Flynn, states, “We make it good, so you’ll keep coming back.”
