Sunset is the ideal time of day to enjoy the glorious view from the new deck and exquisite beach at Fager’s Island.
The friendly and knowledgeable staff at Fager’s Island invites you to indulge in the light fare menu on Fager’s Island’s new deck.
It doesn’t get any better than bayfront dining at Fager’s Island, 60th St. in the Bay. My friend, Melanie Martin, and I enjoyed wine and dinner on Fager’s waterfront deck this week, where the sun sets into the glistening bay to the tune of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.” The newly expanded deck is dotted with beautiful palm trees that sway in the bay breeze, and the panoramic water view defines the scenic beauty that surrounds Fager’s Island. It was the perfect moment when the sun completed its descent while confetti guns shot colorful flare over the deck as all of the customers applauded.
Melanie and I began our meal with Lump Crab Cake Appetizer and Fresh Mozzarella, Heirloom Tomato, and Basil, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. Stonewheat crackers, sprouts, tomato and onion slices, and Cajun remoulade accompany the Lump Crab Cake. We enjoyed dipping each forkful of lump crabmeat in the spicy Cajun sauce. I highly recommend the Fresh Mozzarella, Heirloom Tomato, and Basil. Each fresh tomato slice is thick and perfectly in season, and the appetizer is extraordinarily large.
Fager’s presents a plethora of fresh salads and salad entrees. The Bangkok Salad is a delicious blend of baked organic chicken, seasonal greens, spicy Thai plum dressing, peanuts, sesame, cilantro, and fried Asian noodles. Organic Spinach Salad, Classic Caesar, and Bistro Steak Salad are additional salad choices. Fresh Broiled Salmon, Organic Chicken Strips, or Marinated or Jerk Seasoned Grilled Chicken is available on greens with virgin olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
Other appetizers on Fager’s light fare menu are Wings, Shrimp Cocktail, fried Clam Strips, Chicken Tenders, Buffalo Chicken Tenders, Baked Brie with pears and grapes, and warm Maryland Crab Dip with avocado tortilla chips and salsa. The Island Round fries are dusted with a mesquite barbeque spice and are so addictive. From the Raw Bar, you may order spicy Steamed Shrimp, one dozen Oysters or Clams, or Oyster Shooters. Fager’s also offers French Onion and Maryland Crab Soups.
For her main dish, Melanie selected the Island Fish Taco a al Cuba, and I opted for the grilled six-ounce Filet. We chose a bottle of Root 1 Carmenere to accompany our meals. A deep red color with rich flavors of plum, blackberry, and spice, the Chilean wine perfectly complemented my grilled steak. Fager’s features an award winning Private Label Collection of fine wines.
Melanie thoroughly enjoyed her Fish Tacos, which are a delectable combination of fresh, grilled fish, Havarti cheese, cabbage, and cilantro avocado sauce in a soft tortilla. She’s sampled Fish Tacos at many restaurants in the area, and she insists that Fager’s Fish Tacos are her favorite. My filet is served grilled to perfection with tomato-horseradish relish and round fries. I added a small house salad to my meal. Everything was satisfying to the last bite, and we simply devoured the flavorful round fries.
Other hearty platters on Fager’s light fare menu include Broiled Salmon Filet, Steak and Cake, and Maryland Crab Cake with dill Dijon mayo and toasted peanut-sweet corn salad. Sandwiches, wraps, and burgers complete the light fare menu. The Crab Melt is mouth-watering good, with jumbo lump crabmeat served open faced on an English muffin with melted cheddar cheese or imperial sauce. I recommend The Islander, which is roasted turkey breast, deep smoked ham, Swiss cheese, romaine lettuce, and Russian dressing on thick-sliced soft rye bread. Vegetarians enjoy the Garden Burger and the Powerhouse Wrap—sprouts, carrots, lettuce, onions, garlic mayo, and provolone cheese. Char-grilled Burgers, Maryland Crab Cake, Shrimp Salad, and Jerk Chicken or Grilled Salmon BLT roundup the sandwich options. Try the “Kitchen Sink Burger,” which is an enormous concoction of Angus beef, bacon, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, cheese, and fried onions.
For a taste from South of the Border, order the Vegetable, Chicken, Steak, Crab, or Shrimp Quesadillas, which are made with cheddar and jack cheese, Southwestern black bean and corn, sauce Verde, and sour cream. The light fare menu also includes a generous kid’s menu and irresistible desserts. Melanie and I shared a slice of Lemon Lust—a lemon cream pie in a pecan cookie crust with sweetened cheese filling and fresh whipped cream. It’s the perfect summertime dessert. Chocolate Moose and Bourbon Pecan Pie are permanent fixtures on the dessert menu, and Cheesecake and Crème Brulé flavors change daily.
Fager’s begins serving the light fare menu on the deck and beach dining areas each day at 11 a.m. A second-story fine dining room with unbelievable bay views opens at 5 pm. Lobster Tail, Roasted Duckling, and Chilean Sea Bass broiled with plum-sesame glaze are just a few of the scrumptious items on the fine dining menu.
Jazz Brunch takes place from 11-3 pm each Sunday at Fager’s Island. Enjoy live jazz music on the bay while you savor Frittata, Eggs Benedict, Creamed Chipped Beef, three-egg Omelets, or Raisin French Toast with smoked bacon and hot sliced apples.
In addition to light fare, fine dining, and Sunday brunch, Fager’s brings dance, Motown, R&B, and modern and classic rock to Ocean City. Check the Coconut Times for Fager’s weekly entertainment lineup. Live bands and DJ Batman and DJ Rob Cee entertain the masses at Fager’s during the world famous Monday Night Deck Parties, when you can enjoy home style cooking on the new deck and beach cabana dining areas. With palm trees and fire pits, the private beach is nothing less than majestic. Check out a Sublime tribute band, “40 Ounces to Freedom” at the deck party on Monday, July 19.
