The enthusiastic staff at The Frog Bar invites you to visit the restaurant, located in downtown Ocean City at the Inlet.
A remarkable pink sky served as a backdrop at The Frog Bar, where Amanda and I enjoyed a fun atmosphere and fresh menu.
Husband-and-wife team Delmar and Dena are the proud new owners of The Frog Bar. Located all the way downtown on the Inlet waterfront, the elevated café boasts direct views of Assateague Island and the Inlet channel. Spend a quiet evening watching the leisure and commercial fishing vessels traveling through the Inlet, from the bay to the Atlantic Ocean. Tons of wildlife, and unbelievable sunsets, make The Frog Bar the best vantage point in Ocean City for cherishing million dollar views. Plus, the lively staff is extraordinarily friendly, and the chef uses only fresh ingredients to create delectable recipes. The chef also maintains an onsite herb garden, from which he selects basil, parsley, and other tasty components to spice up his creations.
The Frog Bar specializes in burgers and sandwiches, such as the locally famous Soft Shell Crab sandwich and the Mushroom Swiss Burger, which is topped with a whole marinated and grilled portabella mushroom cap. The Grilled Ahi Tuna sandwich is another popular pick that is fresh and served on a brioche roll. Dubbed “Frog Heaven,” The Frog Bar’s monster-sized burger holds two patties with ham, thick-cut bacon, Swiss and American cheese, a whole portabella mushroom, and BBQ sauce. This burger is so colossal that it’s giving The Frog Bar a chance to appear on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives television show.
I ate dinner at The Frog Bar this week with my beautiful friend, Amanda Kramer. We sat on the outdoor patio, which directly overlooks the Inlet waterfront and Assateague Island. Tall marble-and-glass tabletops provide elegant outdoor seating, and umbrellas, green lights and classic rock music create a magical atmosphere at The Frog Bar. Our cheerful server, Brittany, was thrilled to represent The Frog Bar for the Coconut Times. She presented us with the daily chef specials, which change every day. The Soup of the Day was hearty Smoked Salmon Chowder with fresh dill. The popular Appetizer special was Pork Shanks, which are slow roasted in an Asian sauce and served with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce. Cheesy Ranch Chicken Salad and Soft Shell BLT—a whole local soft shell crab deep fried and topped with thick-cut bacon, mayo, romaine, and locally grown tomatoes on toasted white, wheat, or brioche—were the daily sandwich specials.
Amanda and I began our meal with a summer favorite: Tomato Mozzarella Salad. Fresh, locally grown tomatoes are layered with mozzarella and fresh basil, and drizzled with balsamic reduction. As a year-round local in Ocean City, I genuinely appreciate restaurants that support our local farmers. The salad is proof that locally grown ingredients make the most delicious dishes. Other fresh salads on the menu at The Frog Bar are Chef’s Salad and Lily Pad Salad, which consists of crisp romaine, fresh tomatoes, red onions, celery, and cheddar cheese. The homemade soups are Chili, Spicy Crab & Sweet Corn Chowder, and Maryland Crab Soup.
At the tall tabletop next to ours, a group of friends were chowing down on Guinness Beer Battered Onion Rings and Frog Fries—fresh hand-cut fries smothered in homemade chili, creamy cheese sauce, fresh onions, and crisp thick-cut bacon. Other satisfying appetizers on the menu are Queso Dunk, Loaded Nachos, Calamari, and Coconut Shrimp. The Toasted Mexi Melts are roasted raviolis stuffed with spicy cheese sauce, deep fried, and served with ranch sauce. The Frog Bar is also popular for its wings and homemade sauces. You may choose from naked, mild, hot, BBQ, Old Bay, Garlic Butter, Mild Garlic, Hot Garlic, and Jerk homemade sauces. I recommend the Old Bay wings for a true taste of Maryland style wings.
For our main course, Amanda ordered the Bacon, Swiss & Ranch chicken sandwich, and I selected the Cheesy Ranch Chicken Salad from the daily special offerings. Amanda’s sandwich consisted of char-grilled chicken, generously topped with thick bacon, creamy ranch dressing, and melted Swiss cheese. I love a good Chicken Salad in the summertime, and my meal was absolutely divine. Tender chunks of all white meat chicken are blended with sharp cheddar cheese and cool ranch dressing. I opted to have my sandwich prepared on toasted wheat bread. Healthy and delicious, my sandwich made me very happy.
Additional irresistible sandwiches at The Frog Bar are the BLT, Grilled Chicken, and Pulled Pork with Cole slaw and a pickled egg. The Italian Sandwich includes capiccola ham, Genoa salami, and Italian mortadella piled high on a fresh baked brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, mayo, oil, vinegar, and Italian spices. The Frog Bar features more tasty burgers, too, such as the Hawaiian Burger that is loaded with sweet ham, grilled pineapple, melted Swiss cheese, and honey mustard sauce. The restaurant also boasts the Frog Mac—two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a brioche bun. Classic favorites on the menu are Grilled Cheese and Soup and a quarter-pound Frog Dog, which is deep-fried, grilled, and served on a potato roll with chips and a pickle.
Do you have a monster appetite? Try one of The Frog Bar’s hearty platters. The BBQ Rib Platter is a full pound of fall-off-the-bone ribs with fresh-cut fries and Cole Slaw. I suggest the Yuengling Fish & Chips Platter, which is piled high with beer battered, flaky white haddock.
Fun for the whole family, The Frog Bar offers friendly service, a fun atmosphere, and incredible views. Locally owned and operated, the restaurant serves beer and wine, and has Keno games. Froggy Hour takes place from 8 to 9 pm each day, featuring select $1 drafts.
Owner Delmar is extra attentive to his customers. He told Amanda and me that we remind him of the ‘fierce foursome’ in “Sex And The City” because we’re always on the scene in Ocean City. As the self-proclaimed “Carrie Bradshaw of Ocean City,” I considered his flattery to be a huge compliment. Thank you to Brittany, Delmar, and the entire staff at The Frog Bar for serving up a fresh and creative menu, and for taking such good care of us. I highly recommend that you venture downtown to the Inlet this week and enjoy a fabulous meal at The Frog Bar.
