Natalee and I toasted to the beautiful view and house drink, Sangria, at Micky Fins.
Where can you go for unbelievable food specials, delicious refreshments, fabulous entertainment, and breathtaking views? Micky Fins Dock Bar & Restaurant in the OC Fishing Center by the Route 50 Bridge. My super cool friend, Natalee, and I had the pleasure of dining at Micky Fins on Monday this week, and we were blown away by the aesthetically beautiful restaurant, ultra friendly staff, and exceptionally delicious cuisine.
We sat in a glorious sunroom, next to the dock bar and overlooking the boat docks and Ocean City inlet. Micky Fins’ new manager, Chief, came out from the kitchen and welcomed us to the restaurant.
“Our goal is to attract locals with food and drink specials and menu items under $20, even the Filet Mignon,” he explained. Indeed, Micky Fins is a local haven. Locals rent the boat slips surrounding the establishment, and each of the burgers and sandwiches on the menu are named after local boats. For instance, the “Game Over” Cheesesteak, “Foolish Pleasures” Soft Crab, “Fish Bonz” Fish Sandwich, Mak-Atak” Burger, and the “Hot Pursuit” French Dip, which is served with grilled portabello mushrooms, caramelized onions, and melted Swiss on a toasted baguette, are each named after boats that dock at Micky Fins.
Our delightful server, Mallory, greeted us and told us about the daily specials—Broiled Rockfish topped with a jumbo lump and roasted corn relish with 2 sides, and a pound of Cajun Jumbo Shrimp Boil with lemon, andouille, onion, and red skin potato. She also told us about Micky Fins’ house drink—the “Catch & Release” Sangria. A choice of red or peachy white sangria made daily with fresh fruit, the secret recipe is a sweet summer treat, and so much better than an orange crush. The refreshment is available by the glass or pitcher. Natalee and I ordered two white sangrias and began perusing the appetizers and soup and salad menus.
Some delectable items on the appetizers menu are “Reel Addiction” Crab Dip, “Hot Spot” Chicken Wings, “Got-Cha” Fish & Chips, Steamed Shrimp, Calamari, Clam Strips, Flatbread Pizza, and Buffalo Chicken Dip. A few of my friends who frequent Micky Fins each week recommended that we try the “Get Sum” Famous Fish Tacos. A choice of grilled or blackened mahi-mahi, warm flour tortillas, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and avocado-lime sauce, the Fish Tacos truly are locally famous.
Soup selections are Cream of Crab Soup and Soup of the Day. Salad selections include Chef’s Salad, Caesar Salad, and “Skirt Chaser” House Salad, all of which may be topped with steak, shrimp, or shrimp or chicken salad. Natalee and I ordered the Marina Cobb Salad—mixed greens topped with bacon, hardboiled eggs, tomatoes, avocados, corn, cheddar cheese, and crumbled bleu cheese. We also enjoyed an order of the Martha’s Vineyard—mixed greens, red onion, sundried cherries, tomatoes, candied walnuts, crumbled bleu cheese, and maple raspberry vinaigrette. Both salads are enormous and prepared with the freshest ingredients. The corn and avocado on the Marina Cobb taste amazing, and so do the sundried cherries and candied walnuts on the Martha’s Vineyard. For our appetizers, we ordered the BBQ Shrimp Wrapped in Bacon, and the fresh, homemade Guacamole and Chips. Again, the portions are huge and good to the last bite. We almost didn’t save enough room for our entrees.
Served with two sides, it’s hard to believe that the entrees are under $20. Rib-eye, Filet Mignon, Fried Oysters, Fried Chicken, and BBQ Half-Chicken are just a few temptations. We ordered the 5 oz. Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, made with Micky Fins’ signature recipe. We also tried the “Play Time” Oyster Po Boy sandwich and Micky Fins’ number one seller—New Orleans Bow Tie—shrimp, scallops, lump crab, andoille sausage over bow tie pasta with tomato cream sauce. Too much food for two girls? No way. We indulged in every delicious bite. We never did figure out what ingredients make the Crab Cake stand out from the rest. Natalee guessed oregano. Whatever delectable recipe comprises the Crab Cake, it’s definitely in a league of its own. I certainly understand why the Bowtie Pasta is the best seller. The scallops and shrimp are jumbo, indeed. I highly recommend this dish. And the Oyster Po Boy, which is hand breaded and served on a grilled sub roll with lettuce, tomato, and remoulade, is a perfect meal on a summer day. For kids 10 and under, Micky Fins offers a Minnow Menu with pizza, mac-n-cheese, peanut butter and jelly, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, and mini burgers. All kids items are served with fruit and fries or vegetable of the day.
Appealing to locals and fishermen, Micky Fins serves a discounted Breakfast Menu from 5-11 a.m. Available to go, Breakfast Sandwiches are only $3.95. You can also call ahead for Tackle Box Lunches. Turkey, ham, or roast beef sandwiches are wrapped, packed, and ready to go for only $4.95.     While we were at Micky Fins, Natalee and I ventured to the deck where all the fun happens. Bartenders Trish and Nick were keeping the drinks flowing. The front of the parking lot is reserved for bikes, and a $100 cash prize and $25 food voucher is awarded to the “bike of the night.” The winner is also featured on the motorcycle television show, “On The Road.” Tuesday nights from 6-9 p.m. are Ladies Night with live entertainment and 1/2 price Sangria, Wine, and Appetizers.
