Located on the dock at the Ocean City Fishing Center in West Ocean City, with views of the islands across the bay, Micky Fins is the perfect blend of casual fun and elegant sophistication. You’ll find jaw-dropping fishing vessels docked at Micky Fins, where locals and fishing enthusiasts meet for happy hour and live entertainment on the deck. Meanwhile, the award-winning restaurant serves the best of the best steak and seafood creations. Featuring management, staff members, and menu items from the former Marlin Moon Grille, Wine Spectator and the Restaurant Association of Maryland have recognized the restaurant’s noteworthy recipes.
A frequent patron at Micky Fins, I had the pleasure of dining at the restaurant this week with my handsome date, Joey Steward (Hertrich GMC). I knew before we entered the establishment that my favorite item on the menu is the Roasted Garlic Rubbed Center Cut Beef Tenderloin. Topped with a bleu cheese herb crust and tawny port demi glace, this filet is at the top of my list of recommendations. Another delectable treat at Micky Fins is the Tuna Nachos — sesame crusted tuna on won ton chips with seaweed salad, honey soy drizzle, red chili, and cucumber wasabi aioli.
Joey and I started our amazing meal at Micky Fins with Tuna Nachos and Oyster Rockefeller — broiled on the half shell and topped with spinach, bacon, and Parmesan cheese sauce. Our friendly server, Sara, told us about the daily appetizer specials, which included Clams Casino and Fried Grouper Bites. Another daily teaser was Grilled Shrimp Bruschetta Canapés with Brie, fresh basil, and fire roasted tomatoes. We also strongly considered ordering the Flash Fried Jumbo Soft Shell Crab teaser with Creole mustard sauce and smoky bacon crumbles, especially when we witnessed a heaping plateful presented to the table next to us. Plus, the soup of the day was a hearty potato, ham and cheddar.
We were elated with our appetizers. The oysters were incredibly juicy, and the tuna was seared just the way I like it. For our entrées, we selected the Roasted Garlic Rubbed Center Cut Beef Tenderloin and one of the daily entrée specials—Eggplant Boat lightly breaded in creamy bisque with sea scallops, jumbo shrimp, crawfish, and shitake mushrooms.
Other specials were Grilled Mahi Mahi filet and a 20-ounce veal porterhouse served with a roasted tomato demi glace. Again, Joey and I were blown away by our main course. Just as we were discussing how the atmosphere at Micky Fins captures the sensation of being on a boat—with lanterns, flags, and fishing paraphernalia in all directions — our Eggplant Boat was served with two long sticks protruding from the dish, mimicking outriggers on a boat. After devouring the steak, which was tender and grilled to perfection, we finished off the Eggplant. Joey commented that the Eggplant is the type of dish that he probably would not have ordered on his own, but now that he’s experienced it, he’ll definitely order it next time he visits Micky Fins.
Renowned for its seafood and steak dishes, Micky Fins serves its full entrée menu after 5 p.m. The restaurant includes an entry level, enclosed dining area and dock bar, plus a stylish second-floor dining room overlooking the OC Fishing Center. Other entrées include the Twin Grilled Frenched Pork Rib Chops, which is served with an apricot horseradish glaze and crispy onions — a must try. Chicken Rockefeller is prepared broiled, stuffed with spinach, and served with prosciutto, Parmesan, mushrooms, and smoked bacon Pernod cream sauce. The Chicken Chesapeake is broiled and topped with jumbo lump crabmeat, béchamel sauce, and diced roma tomatoes over papardelle pasta.
For seafood lovers, Micky Fins offers Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes served with Cayman Island aioli. Freddy’s Seafood Pasta is a brilliant combination of jumbo shrimp, backfin crab, sea scallops, squash, roma tomatoes, and papardelle pasta in a light garlic sauce. Other scrumptious seafood dishes include Broiled Canadian Lobster Tail, Fried or Grilled Shrimp with mango cocktail sauce or butter, and Seared Sushi Grade Tuna Steak with fresh mango salsa, wasabi, cucumber, and red chili aioli.
Looking for the best of both worlds? Try the Surf & Turf — a petite grilled six-ounce center cut tenderloin filet with your choice of lump crab cake, grilled shrimp, fried shrimp, or broiled Canadian lobster tail.
A major perk to dining at Micky Fins is the appetizer menu. Popular orders include Shrimp, Back Fin Crab Dip, and Crispy Calamari. I recommend Crabby Irish Pizza, which is an irresistible concoction of flat bread topped with Kerry Gold Dubliner cheese and back fin crabmeat. If you come to Micky Fins for appetizers and have a hearty appetite, try the Meat Sticks. Grilled beef tenderloin with sweet potato fries, chimichurri, and pickled red onions, the Meat Sticks are enough to feed everyone at your table.
Cream of Crab Soup is a permanent fixture on the menu, and your server will inform you of the soup of the day. Along the “Weed Lines,” salads include House Salad, Caesar Salad, and BLT Wedge with bleu cheese dressing, bacon, and roma tomatoes. The Steak Salad is topped with grilled tenderloin, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, bleu cheese crumbles, and A-1 spiked creamy vinaigrette. Plus, ask your server about the salad of the day. Seared tuna, grilled shrimp, chicken breast, seared scallops, shrimp salad, chicken tenders, grilled tenderloin, and jumbo lump crabmeat may be added to any salad for a minimal charge.
