Smitty M'Gee's Raw Bar & Restaurant
Kelly Quinn (Mann Properties) and Stacey Payne (Town of Ocean Pines) had a feast at Smitty McGee’s on Route 54 in Fenwick Island, Delaware.
Big things are happening at Smitty McGee’s. Football season brings “Big 20” NFL parties to the restaurant and raw bar, where 52 high-definition flat screen televisions and an incredible sound system present multiple games for each and every sports fanatic. Ten awesome food specials plus ten amazing drink specials are offered all day and all night on Sunday and during Monday night football games. Televisions are everywhere at Smitty McGee’s and affordable discounts make the pub the best place in town for cheering on your favorite football team.
In addition to being your football headquarters, Smitty McGee’s offers an impressive menu and terrific service. I joined two of my wonderful friends, Kelly Quinn (Mann Properties) and Stacey Payne (Town of Ocean Pines) for dinner and libations at Smitty McGee’s this week. Our server, Mike, was extra attentive, and manager Karen ensured that we were well taken care of throughout the evening. Proud of her kitchen’s creations, and eager to show off Smitty McGee’s delectable menu, Karen presented us with the best of the best dishes.
For starters, Karen selected Crabby Cheese Fries, Ritzy Mac & Cheese, Tuna Nachos, and Key West Wings for our table. It’s always wonderful when a manager recommends top-notch selections, and Karen chose exactly what we wanted to order. All of us girls agreed that the Ritzy Mac & Cheese is our favorite. Creamy, cheesy macaroni topped with buttery crumbled Ritz crackers and baked until golden brown, the appetizer is hot and hearty. Crabby Cheese Fries—skinny fries topped with crab dip and melted cheddar jack cheese—are also satisfying to the last forkful. From the Summer Menu 2010, Tuna Nachos are a refreshing snack including yellow fin tuna pan-seared in coriander, sesame seeds, and kosher salt, and lightly tossed in an Asian soy sesame sauce atop a bed of seaweed salad and crispy wonton chips. The delicious summertime dish is drizzled in sushi sauce and served with wasabi mayo for dipping. I devoured this appetizer.
Although I usually shy away from spicy wings, the Key West Wings are a tame blend of sweet-and-spicy garlic and island seasonings, and I confess that they are really addictive. “I always get the wings. They’re awesome,” says Kelly. Wings are available in quantities of 10, 20, or 50, and in a variety of flavors like mild, nuclear, inferno, Asian sesame, Old Bay, bourbon, honey BBQ, and garlic parmesan. Smitty McGee’s is locally famous for its wings, and Tuesday nights present Yuengling Wing Thing—discounted beer and 10 wings for $7, starting at 7 p.m.
For our main course, Karen and Mike presented our table with Boursin Sliders, BBQ Chicken Flat Bread Pizza, and a Turkey, Bacon & Cheddar Sandwich. Served on potato rolls, Boursin Sliders are three succulent baby burgers topped with garlic and herb Boursin cheese, Montreal steak seasoning, bacon, and fried onions. These sliders are bursting with flavor and perfect for sharing. Also good for sharing is the BBQ Chicken Flat Bread Pizza—with honey BBQ sauce, fajita seasoned chicken, caramelized pineapple chunks, bacon, and a blend of melted cheeses. Accompanied by chips and a pickle, the Turkey, Bacon & Cheddar sandwich is served hot and on sliced, toasted rye bread.
All of Smitty McGee’s overstuffed sandwiches are served on your choice of white, wheat, rye, Kaiser roll, potato roll, or Ciabatta roll. Additional selections include Grouper, Tuna Steak, Mahi Mahi, Rockfish, Crab Cake, Shrimp Salad, and Chicken Breast sandwiches. The Crabby Chick Sandwich includes Cajun chicken breast topped with crab dip and melted cheeses. Smitty McGee’s Specialty Sandwich is grilled chicken breast smothered in BBQ sauce, bacon, and melted provolone cheese. With grilled filet mignon, sautéed onions, melted provolone cheese, and horseradish sauce, the Tenderloin Sandwich is a meat lovers dream come true. I highly recommend the Boursin Chicken Sandwich—grilled chicken breast topped with garlic and herb Boursin cheese, Montreal steak seasoning, bacon, and fried onions. The Dirty Chicken Sandwich is made with secret spices, and French Dip with Au Jus and Turkey or Corned Beef Ruben complete the sandwich menu at Smitty McGee’s.
Check out Smitty McGee’s Raw Bar for oysters, stuffed mushroom caps, garlic mussels, and steamed clams or shrimp. One of my favorite dishes, Clams Casino, is top neck clams with garlic butter, bacon, and provolone.
The bar and grill also offers plenty of sliders, hot dogs, and half-pound ground beef burgers. Montreal Bacon Bleuburger is my favorite, with Boursin Burger placing in a close second. Garden Burger, Cheeseburger, and Crabby Patty—topped with crab dip and melted cheese—are more mouthwatering options. Death Burgers, Chicken Fingers, and Rockfish are available slider style. Wild West Sliders are grilled burgers topped with BBQ sauce, cheddar, bacon, and fried onions.
Maryland Crab Soup, Cream of Crab, and Chili Bake are the heartwarming soups at Smitty McGee’s. Entrée-sized salads include Greek, Garden, Caesar, Spinach, Wedge, and Tomato & Mozzarella. My favorite is the Tropical Salad—crisp romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, craisins, walnuts, and bleu cheese. The Southwest Salad is also top-quality with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, corn, black beans, shredded cheddar and jack cheeses, and seasoned tortilla strips. For extra indulgence, top your salad with rock fingers, grilled tenderloin, chicken fingers, rockfish, grilled chicken breast, mahi mahi, tuna steak, shrimp salad, or grouper.
For your snacking pleasure, appetizers at Smitty McGee’s include Nachos, Hot Chicken Fingers, Rock Fingers, Broiled Baby Scallops, Hot Crab Dip, Onion Rings, Calamari Rings, Potato Skins, and Garlic Crab Toast. Kelly recommends the aptly named “Leprechaun Legs,” which are toasted onion-battered green beans with wasabi ranch dressing.
Hurry to Smitty McGee’s to sample its Summer Menu 2010, before the seasons change. Flatbread Pizza, such as Caprese and Shrimp & Scallop Scampi, are the perfect combination of ingredients. Ciabatta Sandwiches, including Hawaiian and Texas Roast Beef, are also on the limited-time menu.
Smitty McGee’s offers countless food and drink specials throughout the week. The longest Happy Hour in town is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 4-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Mexican Monday serves up discounted tacos, Corona, and margaritas. Cheeseburger sliders are the food special on Tuesday, which is also Team Trivia Tuesday, beginning September 7. Thursday is Pizza Night with live music by Randy Lee Ashcraft. Friday and Saturday nights are hopping at Smitty McGee’s with live music by local bands, including Randy Lee Ashcraft & the Saltwater Cowboys. Located on Route 54 in Fenwick “Ireland,” Delaware, Smitty McGee’s invites you and your family to sample its terrific menu, cheer on your favorite football team, and have an all-around fun time, year-round.
