Have you been to Burger Night at Whiskers Bar & Grill in Ocean Pines? Monday brings a lively crowd of all generations to the restaurant in Pines Plaza Shopping Center. You’ll find a melting pot of local faces, unbeatable prices, thick burgers piled high with melted cheese, and a staff that knows exactly how to keep the crowd happy. Plus, burgers are half-price on Monday.

My Mom, Nancy, and I celebrated Burger Night at Whiskers this week. Hostess extraordinaire, JoJo, greeted us and led us to a comfortable corner booth by a window overlooking the sidewalk. From this vantage point, we could see several large televisions, the square-shaped bar where happy hour was in full effect, and the convenient beer and liquor store adjacent to the restaurant.  Although the burgers are served in record time, Whiskers offers baskets of popcorn to customers waiting for their meals. 

Our energetic server, Ana, took our drink order and recommended the burgers. “They’re the best burgers around,” she boasted. She also told us about additional daily specials. Whiskers presents homemade dinner specials daily. On Monday, the two tasty appetizer specials were Corn Meal Breaded Catfish Nuggets with fiesta Ranch dip and Fresh Fried Cajun Jumbo Fresh Wings. Maryland Crab Soup and Chicken & Ham Gumbo were the soups of the day. The salads of the day were Cajun Catfish Caesar and Fried Jumbo Soft Crab Caesar. 

For dinner specials, Whiskers prepared Broiled Stuffed Flounder and Meatballs and Grilled Chicken Parmesan Marinara over pasta with garlic bread and a salad. The Surf & Turf special was NY Strip and a Fried Jumbo Soft Crab. Ask your server for the daily specials when you visit Whiskers Bar & Grill.

Of course, like mother like daughter, Nancy and I have similar tastes. We both couldn’t resist ordering the Bleu Bacon Burger. Loaded with crumbled bleu cheese and crispy bacon, it’s lip-smacking good. “That’s delicious!” exclaimed Nancy after she took her first bite. Each burger and sandwich on the menu is served with a pickle, Cole Slaw, and your choice of fries, chips, or homemade potato salad. I ordered Sweet Potato Fries, which are extra-long and served with horseradish sauce for dipping. It’s like eating dessert for dinner.

Other burgers on the menu at Whiskers are Ham Cheese Burger, Turkey Burger, and Triple Cheese Burger. The Topless Burger is served open face with gravy. Try the Tex Mex Burger for a zesty blend of salsa, pepper jack cheese, and onion. Whiskers’ Pizza Burger includes pizza sauce, provolone and mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni. Seafood lovers should try the Carpet Bagger Burger—topped with cheese and crab imperial. The house specialty is the Whiskers Burger with cheese, mushrooms, and fried onions. BBQ sauce, fried mushrooms, onions, and provolone cheese comprise the Texas Burger. Chili Cheeseburger and Reuben Burger top off the burger menu at Whiskers.

The bar and grill also serves up fresh dinner entrées daily from 5-10 p.m. Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes are broiled and contain only lump crabmeat. A 10-ounce NY Strip may be paired with either a Crab Cake or Fried Shrimp. Whiskers’ Fried Seafood Platter includes flounder, shrimp, fried oysters, and clam strips. For a healthy taste of all the best seafood offerings, try the Broiled Seafood Platter—shrimp, bay scallops, jumbo lump crab cake, and fresh fish of the day. All entrées are available in half portions for the smaller appetite. Plus, entrées are served with two vegetables, dinner roll, and a choice of house or Caesar salad.

Whiskers offers a plethora of dinner platters, too, such as Crab Cake Platter, Fried Oyster Platter, Fried Flounder Platter, and Grilled Tuna Steak Platter. The Whiskers Chicken Platter is a heaping plate of boneless breasts prepared to your liking—grilled, fried, BBQ, or Cajun style. NY Strip Platter, Fried Shrimp Platter, and Meatballs Marinara Platter are just a few more colossal dishes on Whiskers’ dinner menu.

If you love sandwiches, Whiskers is the place to go for an extensive list of overstuffed sandwich selections. My favorite is the Rueben, which is a mouthwatering combination of hot corned beef, kraut, and 1000 Island dressing. The Turkey Rueben is equally delicious, with hot turkey, Cole slaw, and 1000 Island dressing. Roast Beef with Gravy and Turkey with Gravy are both served hot on an open-face sandwich. 

A plethora of Chicken Sandwiches includes Grilled Chicken, Italian Chicken, Southwest Chicken, Grilled Chicken Caesar, and Chicken Cordon Bleu with Swiss cheese and ham. Buffalo Chicken is prepared either fired or grilled with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese. Monterey Chicken includes bacon, pepper jack cheese, and ranch dressing. And, Tex Mex Chicken sandwich is a yummy concoction of salsa, pepper jack cheese, and onions. 

All beef foot-long hot dogs, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake sandwiches, Grilled Tuna Steak sandwiches, and Cheesesteak and Chicken Cheesesteak subs are a few more overstuffed offerings at Whiskers. Ham, BLT, Turkey, Roast Beef, Corned Beef, Fried Oyster, Club, Tuna Salad, and Meatball Sub complete the sandwich selections at Whiskers. 

Fall is just around the corner, and Whiskers is ready to warm-up football season with homemade soups. Homemade Chili and French Onion soup are always on tap at Whiskers. Soup of the Day and Seafood Soup of the Day offer a bowlful of variety. Fresh salads at Whiskers include Garden, Caesar, Tuna Salad, and Chef Salad. Add chicken, garlic shrimp, or tuna steak to your salad for extra zing. 

Got the munchies? Wings and Chicken Fingers are available in five finger-licking flavors. Cajun Pork Fingers are served with celery and bleu cheese dressing. Steamed Shrimp, Crabby Stuffed Pretzel, and Cheesy Crab Dip are ready to please seafood fanatics. Jalapeño Poppers, Jalapeño and Pepper Jack Pretzel, Fish & Chips, Loaded Fries, Nachos, Sweet Potato Fries, Mozzarella Sticks, and Onion Rings are additional crowd-pleasing appetizers on the menu at Whiskers.

Happy Hour takes place every day of the week at Whiskers from 3-7 p.m. Industry Happy Hour is a late night treat from 11 p.m. -2 a.m.  Check out Whiskers’ advertisement in Coconut Times for upcoming Sunday/Monday night football specials. Friday night at 10 p.m., Donnie Berkey hosts karaoke, and Saturday nights come in for great live bands.
