June (Christine) & Johnny Cash (David) gave an amazing performance at Micky Fins last Saturday.
New Censation was simply sensational last week at the Ocean Club/Clarion.
Love that standup bass played by Bobby with super guitarist Darin - Opposite Directions - at BJ’s. Hear them Fri. afternoon at Coconuts; Fri. night at The Shark.
The Ray Pittman Project will rock the stage Friday at Fager’s Island; and Saturday at M.R. Ducks.
Tranzfusion was hot on the deck at Micky Fins Monday.
Tom Larsen brings his rockin’ blues to 707 Sports Bar & Grill Friday.
Varoom vrooom!! Dazzling motorcyles are whipping by my office window making it very hard to concentrate and talk to you all. I just want to get out and join the party. My goal? To finish in time to hear Tranzfusion at M.R. Ducks (this is Thursday, folks). I heard them last Mon. at Micky Fins where they kicked off Bike Week and the crowd loved, loved, loved them! Micky Fins has been a hot spot for great entertainment all summer long and they’ve pulled out all the stops this week. We heard David Stone - The Johnny Cash Experience last Sat. and the crowd went wild for him. They have a new band (to me, anyway) called Strangers With Candy playing tonight and Sat. night they finish the season with Pompous Pie. I hope you’ll continue to support Micky Fins as they plan to stay open year-round.
Congratulations to all who were honored at the Chamber of Commerce Grand Ball last Fri. Check out our two pages of pictures and you can see we had a great time. Teenage Rust had everyone on the dance floor all night long and the Scopers (Jon & Charlie) gave everyone more than a few laughs with all their posers. In addition to the Spirit of OC award to Greg Shockley and Citizen of the Year award to Kathy Panco, our dear friend Eunice Sorin received a very special honor that night. She is truly an Ocean City icon, an amazing woman who has led an amazing life. Until recently, you could always see her living it up on the dance floor, but now in her 80s, she’s had to lighten up just a little bit. Now we chair dance, right Eunice? Anyway, for her tireless efforts on behalf of Ocean City and her unfailing generosity to many different charities, there will be a bust of Miss Eunice erected at the Chamber and a pictorial display of her life and ... (drum roll please!) it will now be called the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce and Eunice Q. Sorin Visitor & Conference Center. Hooray!! A well-deserved honor. See ya chair dancing at the Ocean Club, Eunice!
We went to the Ocean Club after the Ball and the music of New Censation was fabulous. Cindy has such an incredible voice as does her hubby Roy and they are so friendly. It was a truly memorable evening and one we plan to repeat next year. Go Chamber! This weekend features another lovely songstress in the person of Katrina Love with Synergy.
Hope you like the picture of Opposite Directions with Bobby’s standup bass at BJ’s. I don’t think I’ve ever had that in before so ... there you go, guys! They are so much fun to hear and you can hear them twice this week - at Coconuts Beach Bar (closing next week) Fri. afternoon; and at The Shark Fri. night. You’ll be amazed at Darin’s guitar playing - smokin’!
Also, amazing? Check out Vessa at Galaxy 66 tonight. This gal has an amazing voice and charismatic personality - all the qualities needed to be a compelling entertainer. And very, very jazzy in a very jazzy cosmic setting that is Galaxy 66.
One of my new favorite bands (I know, I love ‘em all, right?), Jettstream, is playing this weekend at Coins Pub. This band will satisfy your need for all kinds of rock because their players are so very versatile. Mario is one of the best singers I’ve ever heard and he gets a lot of vocal help from Brian and Roy, too. Roy is an expert on guitar and you never know what Brian is going to play next. It might be the flute for a Jethro Tull number of the sax for an R&B tune, or dueling guitars with Roy to really rock it out. Frank on bass and Jupiter on drums are the heartbeat that drives the music and you, my friends, should drive over to Coins and hear this fantastic band.
Fantastic is also a word I would use to describe the playing of Will McIntyre whether in Max Black (who I just heard at the Purple Moose Tue.&Wed.) or the Ray Pittman Project coming up for us at Fager’s Island tonight and M.R. Ducks on Sat. afternoon. Will is a wildman as he stomps out the beat or dances around the dance floor or parades up and down the bar while playing searing riffs on his smokin’ guitar, driving the crowd wild too. Ray Pittman has been a favorite for many years playing the keyboard and singing with a unique voice so pleasing and compelling to hear - and boiling over with emotion on some R&B tunes. Round out the group with hunky Chris on drums and Beatles fan Kenny on bass and you have a well-round band that excells at everything they play. Can’t wait to hear them again and hope to see you there.
Seacrets will be off the hook with entertainment and probably the largest collection of motorcyles in their lot than anywhere else. Jim Long will be in his element leading the party out on the beach and there won’t be many more of these beach days left, my friends, so get out and enjoy while you can. Sunday afternoon is the highlight of the weekend for the Miss Seacrets Finals. Yes, all the beautiful young ladies you’ve cheered to the top will vie for the coveted title.
The Steer Inn will feature two bands that are guaranteed to be favorites to our hard-rockin’ biker buddies - Jimbo Manion (formerly of Molly Hatchett) on Fri. and Smokin’ Gunnz, “Southern Rock Done Right,” on Sat. I was just there for the Lucky Daredevil Thrillshow last night that was a real hoot! The fire eating of Tyler Fyre, knife throwing and other acts of a death defying nature were entertaining but when Thrill Kill Jill brought out those Boas - that was it for me! Don’t like snakes; but she loves them - kisses and more. Yuk!! Still, pretty amazing. Pics next week.
More best bets for the weekend: Surreal Fri.-Sat. and Kashmir Sun. at the Purple Moose; Dr. Harmonica & Rockett 88 Sat. at the Greene Turtle West; and Tom Larsen Fri. and Crossroads Sat. at 707. Party safe!
