Coco Nights
Last week’s winners at the Fager’s Island Claim To Fame were Amadeus (3rd), Armand, (2nd) and Aaron (3rd) with host Kevin Poole. Come out next Tuesday.
Hi, y’all! Gotta keep it short this week ‘cause all extra space has been given to tons of cool Halloween pics from awesome parties all over town. What a blast! Hope you enjoy this issue. The next, and last one of the year, will be out Dec. 18.
‘Til then, there are lots of great parties and music ,so hang on to that “Who’s Where When” list to plan your fun. Skip Dixxon (who tells me Rock Bottom (KISS tribute) will be playing some big rooms on the road soon) wants to invite one and all to his 15th Annual 12 Bands of Christmas on Thurs., Dec 17th at Seacrets 5p-2a. Featuring Crooked Finger, Woodstok, Blake Haley, Fuzzbox Piranha, Witches Brew, Semiblind, Agent 99, Gravy, Paul Lewis Band, Phantom Limbs, Earth Bound Groove and Lower Class Citizens, this should be a rockin’ good time. Admission is a new unwrapped toy for the kids.
BJ’s on the Water’s Christmas party will be held on Wed., Dec. 9 at 8pm, and will be geared to helping our four-footed friends. Donations of pet products (Purina Cat & Dog food products toys, leashes, blankets, etc.) to be given to the Worcester Co. Humane Soc. will entitle you to their Christmas Buffet Dinner with music provided by Teenage Rust & The Fabulous Rustettes.
Best wishes to Doug “the Madman” Mayhle and wife Rachel as they are moving south. Last night (Thur.) was the final Open Mic that he has been hosting at Whiskers Bar & Grill for the past six years. I join my many musician friends in thanking him (and Whiskers) for giving them the opportunity to perform. Doug is excited to be recording his first CD ; and he says he’ll be back to jam in the spring. Meanwhile at Whiskers, this Sat. will be the final live music of the season featuring Landers & Heinz.
I had a ball at Davey Jones Locker Room last Sunday afternoon (as many of you know, teehee!) and I’m inviting you all to join me and fellow guest bartender Cathy Germann this Sun. as the Surfrider Foundation fundraising continues at this cool new venue. Great view, food and live music: Dave Sherman this Fri., Aaron Howell coming up Wed. and Kevin Poole next Fri. (Check the listing.)
Another exciting event is coming up on Fri., Dec. 11. Renowned jazz pianist Gregg Karukas is coming to town to perform a special concert at Seacrets’ Morley Hall to benefit Ocean City Cultural Arts. Many of us remember Gregg’s visits to Mellow Beach and we thank Peck and Patti Miller for bringing him back. Karukas, a Bowie, Md., native, played in the band Natural Bridge, a staple at the Talbot Street Cafe in the ‘80s. After moving to L.A., he quickly found himself playing with the likes of Patti Austin, Richard Elliot and Shelby Flint who collaborated with Karukas on their Home For The Holidays CD,  the title of this concert. Shelby Flint is the voice behind the Charley Brown “Snoopy Come Home” special and “The Rescuers” soundtracks. See you there!
Have a great holiday season, don’t eat too much turkey and we’ll see you back in these pages next month. ‘Til then, party safe!
