Hey, there, everyone. Here we are, first week in August and that means the annual White Marlin Tournament - and lots of excitement on the docks at Harbour Island where our friends Spunky and Angie of the Reel Inn Dockbar will be busy making sure you have a great time. Not only do they have some dynamite food from Chef Monte Jones, but they are servin’ up some excellent entertainment for you while waiting to see those big fish comin’ to the scales. Our friends T Lutz & Fast Eddie will be playing music every day from 4 pm ‘til 2 am inside Reel Inn and out on the lawn you’ll hear Zion Reggae Band and Little Cleon & The Dreamers. And remember to buy that refreshing Aziza Spring Water, not only because it’s good for you, but also because a portion of the sales (everywhere you find Aziza) goes to the Michael Mann Foundation that contributes to such worthy causes as Believe in Tomorrow Childrens House by the Sea. Good luck to all the anglers.
The music scene is heatin’ up at de Lazy Lizard with daily entertainment from 5-9 pm. Fri. & Sat. the Joey Saah Band is on tap, Sun. Aaron Howell, Mon. Tim Cyphers & Danny “Animal,” Danny Shivers on Wed. and a group called the Time Police that I hear is an awesome acoustic group. What a win/win place: delicious food, breathtaking sunsets and awesome music each and every day.
Carole, Tanya and the gals at Whiskers Bar & Grill in Ocean Pines are excited that their big “Women Gone Wild” event is finally here. Join them for all the fun and a chance to win a Stratoglass canoe or fishing trip and other prizes; plus great entertainment from the Lime Green Band - all beginning at 1pm Sunday afternoon. And all for a great cause - to raise funds to benefit the fight against breast cancer.
Seacrets is a mecca for entertainment with four or five live bands and several DJs keepin’ the music flowin’ every single day. Their Mon. night concerts have been off the hook and it will be again this Mon. with the return of SOJA with Mambo Sauce this time. Also, Wed. the much anticipated appearance of Rusted Root is set to take place in the Morley Hall. And ladies, you have another chance at the coveted Miss Seacrets title this Sun. in another contest leading up to the finals in Sept.
Have you been to the Clarion lately? Don’t let the summer fly by without a visit to Lenny’s Beach Bar & Grill where First Class is playing on the deck. One trip and I guarantee you’ll make many more. Band leader Danny Dolan says daughter Shannon is quickly becoming the front person with her amazing voice and beautiful face. Happy birthday to Shannon, who many of us have watched grow into the beautiful young woman she is today. Gosh, I remember her singing at the old Ocean Club when she was only 9 or 10 maybe. Wow. I hear there’s going to be a reunion party of the Ocean Club in the fall. I’ll be sure to let you know. Meanwhile, enjoy all they have to offer at the new Ocean Club/Horizons Restaurant in the beautiful Fontainebleau Clarion Hotel.
The tribute bands at Fager’s Island continue to astound me with their range of talent - including this past Sunday’s offering of Robert Eric’s Tribute to Billy Joel. They played every Joel song I could think of and were absolutely fabulous. That fella on sax, clarinet and extra keyboards was most impressive, too. But, of course, it was Rob who was captivating singing and playing a vast array of Joel music every bit as good as the original. Loved it! This Sun. it’s the return of Parrot Beach and their totally fun act doing Jimmy Buffett music.
Well, I’m excited to finish up here and make it to The Purple Moose tonight for a performance by Apple Scruffs doing - wait for it - ALL BEATLES MUSIC! I just saw the Gershwin Award given to Sir Paul McCartney on TV last night - a cool concert held in the Red Room of the White House and hosted by the President and First Lady. Numerous musicians performed McCartney tunes and Sir Paul sang too. It aired on PBS so you may still be able to catch it. Anyway, I’m really primed for some Beatles. Of course, that was last night as you read this. So ... everyone get out and have a good time this week with all the fabulous music everywhere and remember to party safe!
