Randy Lee Ashcraft & The Saltwater Cowboys keep the party going at M.R. Ducks on Saturday, October 16.
Halloween is just around the corner. Do you have your costume yet? Ocean City is one place where adults tend to have more fun than kids do on Halloween. Seacrets, Fager’s Island, the Clarion, and many more venues host legendary costume parties, where you can enter contests for chances to win cash and other prizes. Of course, the music scene is frightfully good, as many bands perform in creative costumes of their own. Trust me. Even if you simply throw on a pair of angel wings or devil horns, you’ll want to dress up if you plan to attend a Halloween party in Ocean City.
Seacrets will hold its annual Halloween Party on Saturday, October 30, with Kristen & The Noise donning costumes and tremendous talent. Fager’s Island has DJ Groove, DJ Rob Cee, and Toxic Mouse on tap for its Halloween Party, also on October 30. Another scary good spot to celebrate Halloween on Saturday night, October 30, is BJ’s on the Water, where Teenage Rust and the Fabulous Rustettes will take the stage. This is a Happy Hour party. Check upcoming issues of Coconut Times for all the spooktacular details.
As I’ve said before, Ocean City really knows how to pay it forward. Anytime a local family or charity organization is in need of support, this town always comes together to raise fun and funds. Dead Freddies has certainly caught on to the importance of supporting good causes. On Saturday, October 16, the bar and restaurant will host a JAM for the Sand barbeque to benefit Ocean City’s chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Rum Riley, Colossal Fossil Sauce, Dank Deep Sea, Research, and Michael Sky are all on the bill to provide live entertainment. DJ Honu and 98.1 FM deejay Marla will emcee the event, which starts at 1:00 p.m.
Located on the bayfront on 64th Street, Dead Freddies is also the site of an upcoming fundraiser on Wednesday, November 3, to benefit the Golden Family. This is one event that hits very close to home. Ron Golden, the loving husband of Coconut Times’ Publisher, Brenda Golden, has been battling chronic pancreatitis for over four years. Our magazine’s Entertainers of the Year are coming together to jam and raise money to go toward his medical bills. Lauren Glick, Kevin Poole, Kathy Denk, Joe Smooth, Tranzfusion, Crowded Outhouse, Opposite Directions, and Randy Lee Ashcraft and the Saltwater Cowboys are all on tap to commemorate the event. Of course, Coconut Times’ 2010 Entertainers of the Year—Full Circle—will also showcase their tremendous talent on the stage at Dead Freddies, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the band will premier some of its new set list. In addition to a melting pot of remarkable music, the event will also feature a silent auction of items donated by brilliant local artists. If you’re interested in contributing, please contact Coconut Times at 410-213-1006.
With so much going on in the upcoming month, I almost lost sight of what’s happening this week. Here’s a breakdown of the show you don’t want to miss. On Friday, October 15, Under the Outhouse will rock 707 Sports Bar & Grille, while Full Circle brings its groovy sounds to BJ’s on the Water. DJ Rupe and DJ Wax will spin your favorite tunes at Dead Freddies on Friday and Saturday, respectively. M.R. Ducks remains open, so kickoff your weekend at 4 p.m. with Kevin Poole & Joe Mama, and keep the party going all weekend with Randy Lee Ashcraft & The Saltwater Cowboys at M.R. Ducks on Saturday, October 16, and with Red No Blue on Sunday.
Until next week, keep thinking up those creative costume ideas for Halloween. Have a wonderful week, everyone.
