It’s a ghoulishly festive Happy Hour Halloween at BJ’s on the Water with hauntingly familiar music by Teenage Rust and the Fabulous Rustettes.
Boy Howdy Music Fans! Welcome to the annual Halloween issue for 2009! We at the Coconut Times look to this week as a milestone in time. It may not be the Superbowl of issues, but it’s at least the Playoffs!
A ghoulishly fun way to ‘kill’ some time this weekend begins at the midtown mansion of the macabre; BJ’s on the Water on 75th St. Haunted Happy Hour, today (Fri 10/31), is a great place to ‘hang’ starting at 4pm. Teenage Rust always puts on a great evening show with lots of laughs. Costumes are encouraged but not required. However, there is one standing rule; you must place the lotion in the basket  and do this whenever you are told! Have a zombie, an icepick or a bloody mary!
In that actual Halloween is a Saturday night this year, Ocean City should be ‘Night of the Living Dead! If you should ‘axe’ the question of where to go; only The Shadow Knows.
Seacrets, Jamaica USA, is a great costume showcase with cash prizes and a trip to Jamaica for a grand prize. Scarier than a trip to D.M.V. with the ghost of Vincent Price, the crowd at Seacrets, along with the staff, take great pride in their All Hallows Eve prowess. The sheer amount of costumes will spin your head around like Linda Blair! All our ‘friends’ will be there; Jason, Freddie, Michael Myers all dancing to Helter Skelter! Put the lotion in the basket!
Look to Smitty McGee’s on Rt. 54 in Fenwick Ireland for Halloween fun and more costume competitions. The Mummy, Frankenstein, Dracula and the Werewolf will be right at home on Sat. Night!
Fager’s Island will also host their annual Halloween Costume Contest on Saturday with big prizes and music by Animal House. DJ Groove will be on the deck and cool costumes are the dress code for the evening.
The Ocean Club in the Clarion Hotel (101st St.) traditionally hosts a good Halloween bash. Costume contests with cash prizes will be on tap this Sat. Night. Also a tradition - music by Danny Dolan and First Class who always dress to kill. Frightful circumstances will ensue!
Thanks again to the folks at M.R. Ducks for another great year. Sunday’s closing party with Johnny Bling was off the hook! Always a venue for live music, Ducks commits to keeping live performances a big part of its theme down on the dock. We hope to see you all down The Talbot Street Pier in 2010!
Congrats again to DJ BK and September on their nuptuals last Sat. What a cool wedding reception they held at Fish Tales! James Gallagher and Off the Boat provided the tunes and the Fish Tales crew outdid themselves on the spectacular menu! Alot of entertainers and bar/restaurant people from the Shore were in attendance and it was a locals affair. Thanks also to Fish Tales for a great job in 2009!
Excellent concert photos and review of the latest KISS tour were brought to us last week from our own Coco staffer Gary Crouthamel. Top shelf photo images! KISS fans need go no further than The Purple Moose Saloon (Caroline St. and the Boards) on Sat. 10/31. The featured act is tribute band ‘Rock Bottom’ appearing one night only at The Moose for Halloween. Any fan of KISS would be impressed by costumes, the song list and attention to detail!
Happy Halloween! Remember all the silver bullets, garlic and Holy Water can’t save you  now. Be safe, have fun and put the friggin’ lotion in the basket!
Til next time, Tah!! – Marco Ink
