How much live talent can we jam-pack into one week? This is one of those weeks when I wish I could clone myself and be at many different places at the same time. On Monday, August 2, SOJA returns to Seacrets for their third performance this summer. At each show phenomenal bands, like Tribal Seeds and The Movement, have opened for SOJA, and on Monday the band Mambo Sauce will get the crowd feeling irie before SOJA takes the stage. The Movement also plays at Seacrets on Sunday, August 1. Then, on August 4, Rusted Root will entertain the crowds. Local talent Bryan Russo is slated to open for Rusted Root. Get your tickets now at the tiki boutique in Seacrets or through Ticket Master. Seacrets has a raging line-up this week, with Amish Outlaws on Friday night, Jah Works on Friday and Saturday nights, and Thrill on Saturday night. With multiple stages, bars, and bands, Seacrets is the ideal place to get lost in Ocean City.
I recently had the privilege to see the Jay Hoad Band, and it is quite an experience. I heard the band at Sunset Grille in West Ocean City, which is the ideal setting for this type of music. Outside and on the water, the stage is an anchored house boat. Blending reggae, rock, blues, and funk, this band brings more instruments on stage than I can count. The band was joined on stage by an authentic belly dancer, who enhanced the visual appeal of the show. From Australia, the Jay Hoad Band has been touring Ocean City and Rehoboth for summer 2010. See them on Friday night at Davey Jones Locker Room. Trust me. You want to experience this band for yourself before they return to Australia in September. Jay Hoad Band returns to Sunset Grille this month. In the meantime, Sunset Grille has Opposite Directions on tap for Friday and Under the Outhouse slated for Saturday.
Pickles Pub has been popping lately with epic bands. I returned for $2 Tuesday this week to get my CandiFlip fix. DJ Wax regularly spins at Pickles on Tuesday nights, Lower Class Citizens play rock-n-roll that melts your face on Wednesday nights, and Tim Cyphers swoons for the ladies on Sunday nights.
For those of you who follow DJ Wax around town, did you know that he’s at Coconuts on Fridays at 6 pm? We’re getting a group together to hit power hour at Coconuts and then have a dance off this Friday. DJ Wax also routinely appears at Dead Freddies on Saturday nights at 11 pm. The band Dank will open for the crowd at Dead Freddies before DJ Wax this week.
One of my favorite bands, The Loop, will get the party started at Fager’s Island on Friday and Saturday nights, July 30 and 31. Meanwhile, Kevin Poole and Opposite Directions will fill the outdoor deck with acoustic rock sounds on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Also on Saturday, stop by Micky Fins Bar & Grill in West Ocean City for Blake Haley at 4 pm. Happy Belated Birthday, Blake! On Sunday, stop by M.R. Ducks at the Talbot Street Pier for Johnny Bling. This is the place to be for Sunday Funday.
Next week marks one of my favorite annual events in Ocean City—the White Marlin Open fishing tournament. The largest billfish tournament in the world, this event brings tons of fish, fun, and live music to the docks at Reel Inn Dockbar on 14th Street. Open to the public every day, Reel Inn presents Just J at 5 pm on Friday, July 30, and Danny Shivers at 5 pm on Saturday, July 31. For this special week more entertainment has been added: Sun. & Fri., Aug. 6 (final weigh-in day), Little Cleon & The Dreamers will play at 2pm. And Mon.-Thur. Zion Reggae Band will play at 5pm, all out on the lawn. Plus DJ Lutz & DJ Fast Eddie will keep the music going inside every night from 4pm-2am. Wow!
I’m trying to squeeze in as much live music as I can this week. I’ll see you on the docks for White Marlin Open. Have a wonderful week,  everybody.
