DJ Wax, pictured at Fager’s Island Deck Party with Jenny (Coconut Times), Gina (Seacrets), and Kristi (Ruark Golf) spins hip-hop each $2 Tuesday at Pickles Pub.
I had some friends visit me in Ocean City from Pennsylvania and North Carolina last weekend, and I was so proud to show off my hometown’s sizzling music scene. We started with the reunion of G-13,  a jam rock band that brought the house down with The Electric Company. Check out The Electric Company on Friday at 5 p.m. at M.R. Ducks. If you like bluegrass and rock music, you’ll love this talented band. Also on Friday, DJ Wax returns to Coconuts at 6 pm,  and Pickles Pub presents Qi Lo—a mid-Atlantic modern rock band that I love for covering old school songs by Fidel (from the long lost days of the Hurricane night club in Ocean City).
Steer Inn Tavern celebrates Friday night with the return of one of my favorite rockabilly bands ever—Gas House Gorillas. Grab a dancing partner and swing the night away to the Gas House Gorillas, and remember to sign up for their mailing list. Their hilarious e-mail messages will crack you up. Trust me. The party at the Steer Inn Tavern keeps on hopping into Saturday night with locally favored band Loud Love.
Catch DJ Cowboy at Macky’s on Saturday night, or you can be the star at karaoke at Davey Jones Locker Room. Also on Saturday night, Ocean Pines Yacht Club has bluesy rock by Full Circle on tap, and Pickles Pub has Pompous Pie rockin’ the house. Plus, check out The Stims at 5 p.m. at the Rio Grande pool bar on Saturday.
DJ Wax is like a legend in this town. He’s so legendary that I never know where he’ll appear from one day to the next, but people constantly ask me, “Is Wax anywhere tonight”? Dates, times, and locations are subject to change, but as far as I know DJ Wax will spin hip-hop at Dead Freddie’s on Saturday night, August 14, and at Pickles Pub on Tuesday night, August 17.
Tuesday night at Pickles also brings CandiFlip to the stage for the rockers in the crowd. Plus, the extremely talented punk rock band, Groundscore, returns to Pickles on Thursday, August 19. In fact, the entire week is on fire at Pickles Pub with Qi Lo on Friday, Pompous Pie on Saturday, Tim Cyphers on Sunday, Lower Case Blues on Monday, DJ Wax and CandiFlip on Tuesday, Colossal Fossil and Lower Class Citizens on Wednesday, and Groundscore on Thursday. Looks like everyone in town will get pickled this week.
It’s impossible to talk about the local music scene in Ocean City without mentioning the Summer Concert Series at Seacrets. Some of my favorite bands of the entire summer—like SOJA, The Movement, Tribal Seeds, and Rusted Root—took part in the concert series. On Monday, August 16, reggae band Third World takes the stage. Buy your tickets today at the tiki boutique inside Seacrets. Boasting multiple stages and dance floors, and dubbed as “Jamaica USA,” Seacrets also presents Go Go Gadget on Friday night, Lost in Paris on Saturday night, and reggae band Storm from Sunday through Tuesday nights. Plus, my favorite, The Movement, returns to Seacrets  on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and Amish Outlaws returns on Thursday and Friday nights.
Another upcoming show that will rock your socks off is Coastal Vibrations at Fager’s Island on Thursday, August 19. Once again, this week is shaping up to be a flurry of musical goodness. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I wish I could clone myself and be at all of these awesome shows at the same time. Enjoy it! And have a wonderful week, everyone.
