U2 tribute band, 2U, returns to Fager’s Island on Labor Day for its Monday Night Deck Party.
I’ve been looking forward to this week for a long time. Not only is it Labor Day Weekend, but also one of my favorite surf rock bands, Full Blown Cherry, is returning to Ocean City. Combining swing sounds and rockabilly, Full Blown Cherry will take the stage at Pickles Pub on Friday night, September 3. The event is also a celebration for my friend, Ginger Fleming, who is commemorating her 40th birthday. In the spirit of the band’s sound from days gone by, Ginger has requested that her friends dress in 1950s-style outfits. It’s sure to be a fabulous night.
Carrying on the 1950s theme into Saturday night, the Steer Inn Tavern in Ocean Pines will host Chris Presley and the Blue Moon Boys. It’s simply uncanny how much the lead singer resembles Elvis Presley. Get ready to dance the night away to a blend of country, blues, rock and roll, pop, and surf rock.
Tommy Edward & Melissa Rose will be playing at 707 Sports Bar in West Ocean City on Friday night. A good part of their act pays homage to Rod Stewart, rockin’ out with such covers of classics as “Hot Legs” and “Maggie Mae.” Also at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, the Tim Cyphers Duo will bring his acoustic rock talent to De Lazy Lizard—my new favorite hot spot. One of my favorite college rock bands, Can’t Hang, returns to Dead Freddie’s on Friday, and the Over Time Band takes the stage at Ocean Pines Yacht Club on Friday.
Saturday is prime time to catch Under the Outhouse at Charlie’s Bayside in Fenwick Island, Delaware.  DJ Wax is slated to spin his hip-hop favorites at Dead Freddie’s. Saturday also brings No Pets For Noah to Fager’s Island, and Zion Reggae Band to Ocean Pines Yacht Club.
Tim Cyphers is quite a busy man. Touted as one of the nicest musicians in Ocean City, he’ll be strumming his guitar for crowds at De Lazy Lizard at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dead Freddie’s at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Fager’s Island at 3 p.m. on Sunday, and Pickles Pub at 10 p.m. on Sunday. Sometimes joined by his friend and drummer, The Animal, Tim Cyphers plays both original music and cover songs like Train’s smash hit, “Soul Sister.”
Sunday Funday will be twice as fun because Monday is Labor Day, right? Celebrate the long weekend with Full Circle at 5 p.m. at Ocean Pines Yacht Club. No Pets for Noah performs at 10 p.m. at Fager’s Island, and DJ Jammin Jeff spins at Macky’s Bayside on Sunday night. Davey Jones Locker Room continues to bring live talent to its downtown location on Sunday Funday, too.
On Labor Day, you won’t want to miss Fager’s Island. Its world famous Deck Party will feature another terrific tribute band, 2U. Covering all of U2’s countless hits, this band keeps the dance floor hopping from start to finish.
Later in the week, another band that tops my list of favorites will appear at Pickles Pub. Sporting a killer horn section, Jackmove will bring its ska/punk/reggae music to Pickles on Thursday night, September 9. On that same day, De Lazy Lizard presents acoustic rocker Aaron Howell at 5 p.m.
Ocean City’s Second Season is in full swing, and Bike Week is just around the corner. Many venues throughout our resort town will host live music, all day and all night, for Bike Week. Check out Coconut Times next week for a complete entertainment calendar. Without a doubt, this is my favorite time of year in Ocean City. Have a happy and wonderful Labor Day Weekend, everybody.
