Randy Lee Ashcraft & The Salt Water Cowboys perform every Friday at Smitty's McGee's.
Boy Howdy Music Fans!
It’s truly an eventful week here in Ocean City. With the kick-off of Senior Week and the Belmont Stakes on Sat., activity at the beach is heating up. This is a time when locals need to exercise a little patience with our summer visitors. When you see an excited tourista in a “kiss me I’m drunkish” T-shirt having a little too much fun, remember we were all young once. Ocean City’s Play it Safe campaign, 20 years after its implementation, has proven successful in providing alternative activities for these new grads! The schedule of events ranges from beach volleyball to laser tag to midnight putt-putt to a pizza eating contest. Hopefully these events will propel these youngsters into making smarter choices. It looks good on paper anyway!
Just think - when the grads are gone, the firefighters will be here. That’s right, next week firefighters from near and far will be in town culminating in the annual Fire Parade on Wed. June 17th.
Make sure you check out the deals all over the area for restaurant week. Many places have an affordable prix fix menu for the week for $20 or $30. Three or four courses for that price is a great deal to enjoy the area’s finest boards of fare.
I’ve had a chance to check out some great live acts lately. BJ’s on 75th Street had the Moodswingers featuring Lauren Glick last week and the results were outstanding. The songlist is not regular to either act but different for both. Dr. Harmonica’s visit to MR Ducks on Sunday was nothing short of epic. The six piece Rockett 88 included saxaphonist Darryl Ray from Philadelphia (he is truly one bad dude) and some Rockett regulars and a few irregulars. Lots of lacal cats got up to jam with the band on the dock. M.R. Ducks proudly welcomes Mean Jean Taylor behind the bar a couple days a week; always nice to see yet another friendly face.
Smitty McGee’s on Rt. 54 in West Fenwick Ireland is holding Sunday Funday every week at 4pm with Randy Lee Ashcraft and Chris Button at the helm, delivering his brand of country and island music. Smitty’s also has all-day happy hour Mon-Thurs from 11am-7pm. Weekend happy hour is from 4-7 and don’t forget the Bloody Mary bar on Sundays from 12-3pm. Look for Randy Lee also on Thursday and Friday at 8pm.
Every Thursday check out DJ Skip Dixxon at the Greene Turtle West out on Rt.611 in West OC. Famous for his show on 98.1 (Ocean 98) FM. Skip brings out his club show to the Turtle West at 9pm for some rock and roll antics. Listen for Skip weekdays at 10pm.
While you sit on the beach or by the pool, check out the following pages of The Coconut Times for the best in food, drink, entertainment and shopping. Pay close atterntion to Coco Nights music news and the Who’s Where When for musical dates and times.
Look for Pompous Pie back at The Caribbean Pool Bar on 2nd Street and boardwalk this and every Friday at 7:30pm. This Saturday (6/6/) we are also at the Crab Bag (131st Street) at 9pm. Come check out their brand new bar and dining room on the 2nd floor, Top of the Bag!
Maybe we’ll see ya all Sunday for the Birthday Bike Crawl. I may have my own “kiss me I’m drunkish” T-shirt on!
Fager’s Deck Party on Monday is a must for bike crawl survivors!
Til bext week, Tah!! – Marco Ink
