Bird Dog & The Road Kings will rip it up Sunday on the docks at M.R. Ducks.
Boy Howdy Music Fans!
This time of year it’s not hard to feel like an old timer compared to the legions of youth descending on our fair city. Every year they are the same yet we are one year older. It’s easy to fathom that an 18 year old looks upon folks my age and sees a relic left over from the Paleolithic era! Thank our lucky stars we live in a town where its socially acceptable to never truly grow up! This barrrier island may not be never-never land, and the ocean the fountain of youth; but the fountain of middle age, maybe!
Don’t yell FIRE this week unless you really mean it! This week’s Firefighter Convention in Ocean CIty welcomes these every-day heroes to a ‘hot’ time at the beach! Their public responsiblity contains a great deal of stress and danger. They deserve to cut loose even a little more than most people. Look for the annual parade on Wednesday.
Front page news this week here at the shore; Louie’s Canton Inn in Seaford, De. was systematically shut down by the Delaware Vice Squad, calling sexual inpropriety in accordance with moral community standards. Ironic that the area’s only gentelmen’s club is shut down just in time for the Fire Week! Sorry fellas, no more thongs and paste-ees!
Looking for clean fun? Check out M.R. Ducks this weekend for good tunes, good food, and cold beer. Sat. Ducks hosts Johnny Bling, a particular favorite among local party seekers. Their show is high energy and the music is an eclectic mix of party standards through the years. If you’re feeling a little country look for Bird Dog and the Road Kings at M.R. Ducks on (Flag Day) Sun. 6/14. This Eastern Shore institution from Easton rocks the house with outlaw country that’s a perfect fit for Firemen’s Week. Show times begin about 4pm both Sat. & Sun.
This week at the movies there’s a little something for everyone. Summer of the sequel; be it Star Trek, The Terminator or Night at the Museum. Land of the Lost appears to be a big departure from the campy’ Sid and Marty Krafft kids’ show. Thank God I caught an old episode on cable, played to spark interest in the movie, and couldn’t believe I used to actually ‘watch’ this!
Concert-goers be ready for George Clinton and P-funk in Dewey Beach in July. I just learned Los Lobos is coming to my hometown also in July. As two of my favorite singer/guitar players, Cesar Rosas and David Hidalgo front the band, I’m sure a review for this column will be on tap! Bud-a-luda-la-bamba!
Attention locals and visitors alike; check out www.coconuttimes.com for coco scrap book photos of yourselves, videos of your favorite bands and you can ‘twitter’ with our fearless leader Brenda Golden! Kind of sounds like a dirty word, ‘twitter’; doesn’t it?
Thanks to the nice folks at Frescos and Jive for serving up such a rockin’ dinner on my birthday. I’ve not had a better meal in recent memory. By the way, this is an endorsement of the Italian style dining experience - 81st St. & the bay!
Looking for a good breakfast? Go to 145th St. at the Rio Grande Cafe & Pool Bar. Great food, reasonably priced and a festive atmosphere. The live music starts at 5pm on Sat. and Sun.
Look for Pompous Pie this weekend at the Caribbean (2nd St.) on Fri. (7:30) and Sat. it’s Duffy’s on 130th at 9pm.
Thanks to my sweetheart Dawn, also to Drew, Sidney, Justine and the gang at Peppers for making my birthday so fun!
Til next week ... Tah!! – Marco Ink
