Summer isn’t over yet. Do yourself a favor and head to the nearest pool bar while you still can. Coconuts Beach Bar & Grill at the Castle in the Sand Hotel on 36th Street is in full swing. The highlight performance this week is Johnny Bling at 5:00 on Saturday, August 20. This jam band is a true crowd pleaser. Also at Coconuts this week are Darin Engh and DJ Honu on Friday, August 19, Johnny Mojo at noon on Saturday, August 20, Crowded Outhouse on Sunday, August 21, Bob Wilkinson & Joe Smooth on Monday, August 22, the Randy Lee Ashcraft Duo on Tuesday, August 23, Chris Button & Joe Mama with Kevin Poole on Wednesday, August 24, and Tim Cyphers and Danimal on Thursday, August 25. Whew! That’s a whole lotta talent crammed into one week.
Rio Grande Café & Tiki Bar on 145th Street at Econolodge is another hot pool bar. Catch Chris Button & Joe Mama at 5:00 on Friday, August 19, Kevin Poole on Saturday, August 20, and DJ Mesqual at 7:00 on Wednesday, August 24.
Local musicians like Chris Button, Joe Mama, and Johnny Mojo are certainly making the rounds in Ocean City this summer. Last week, I visited Matteo’s Salsa Loco in Fenwick Island, and was thrilled to see plenty of local talent on its calendar. Johnny Mojo is on tap for Saturday, August 20. On Sunday, August 21, Simple Truth—a collaboration of all three musicians—will perform at Matteo’s. On Wednesday, August 24, Chris Button will showcase his solo act.
Tribute bands are in full effect at the Purple Moose Saloon. This week, a Bon Jovi tribute band called Crossroads Just Like Jovi rocks the Moose for tribute Thursday on August 25. Monday, August 22, is a big day at Seacrets. Coconut Times Entertainers of the Year 2010—Full Circle—play for the happy hour crowd from 5:00 until 9:00. Then, the Easy Love Tour hits Seacrets with a free concert featuring The Movement with Pacific Dub.
This Just In: Sister Hazel has been added to Seacrets Summer Concert Series. On Wednesday, August 24, the alternative rock band arrives at Seacrets nightclub. What’s going on with the free concert scene in Ocean City this week? The Sundaes in the Park free concert series continues on August 21 from 6-8 at Northside Park on 127th St. This week, Jesse Garron’s Tribute to Elvis entertains the adults, while Tootsie the Clown entertains the kids. Radio Disney presents its free concert series summer finale, 6-9pm, on Sunday, August 21, at the beach on downtown’s North Division St., featuring The Ready Set. On Wednesday, August 24, the Free Concerts on the Beach series presents Randy Lee Ashcraft & The Saltwater Cowboys—a local band—on the beach on North Division Street. On Thursday, August 25, the Lauren Glick Band will rock the free concert at Sunset Park Party Night, 7-9pm, on South Division Street.
