Wow, I’m getting excited now! Halloween is one of the biggest party times of the year and I’m going to the Parrothead party at the Steer Inn tonight (Thur.) (music by Harry O), and then the Seacrets’ Locals’ party later. Sounds like a great warm-up for tomorrow night’s festivities, right? Be sure to read Marco’s Sonic Notes column as he’s given you a very comprehensive rundown of the parties happening all around town. Maybe I have a little something more to tell you about the parties at a few places.
First, I’m thinkin’ the Greene Turtle’s decision to have a costume party should be fun with DJ Wax spinning the tunes and a very special category this year. They’re offering a special prize to the best Pappo (Steve Pappas) and Mitch Scott (owner of Great Scott Broadcasting: 93.5, 95.3, 103.5 etc.) costumes. Cool! The party starts at 9pm so come early and get your game plan.
Of course, even earlier is the BJ’s Happy Hour Halloween party featuring Teenage Rust & the Fabulous Rustettes - I love Marco’s frightful names; clever column, Marco. The music will continue with Tommy Edward & Melissa Rose, a real knockout of a band. You won’t be able to resist the energy of this trio (Harry on drums).
Then, for me, it’s off to Seacrets where the music never stops and the costumes are always fantastic. Well, with a trip to Jamaica up for the winning prize, people tend to go all out. You can show up here for the happy hour, too, if you want, and enjoy the music of the Back 2 Life on the Tiki stage followed by the Zion Reggae Band. Inside the club DJ Tuff will begin the dance hour at 9pm, then the Betty Ford Dropouts will start the live show at 10pm with none other than Kristin and The Noise rockin’ it out at 11pm. Be sure to be there at least by 10pm so the wandering judges can check out all the costumes. Finalists will be announced around midnight. Then, be on the lookout for an American Dream Limo, driven by owner Mr. Fun, to pull up out front. Some very famous musicians will be arriving to play a special Halloween gig for us – KISS!!! Pretty exciting, huh? Well, it’s actually a tribute band called Rock Bottom led by WOCM’s Skip Dixxon on the drums. That’s right, in full costume and makeup, playing on the Seacrets Morely Hall stage around 12:30am. Don’t miss it!
Look for me to pop in at Fager’s Island as soon as I can and check out the mischief and mayhem there. Sugarbuzz will be on the mainstage with DJ Groove on the deck. Costumes are always too cool here, too. The decorations including a coffin, are freaky and the staff always has a good time ‘acting out.’
The music will be off the hook at the 707 Sports Bar & Grille too, with Loud Love givin’ their all. The fun-loving people at 707 will show their spirit, too, with a costume contest. So, there’s a West Ocean City spot for ya. Of course, there are several other choices over here where I live, such as Greene Turtle West where the Aaron Howell Band will be playing; or the Steer Inn Tavern (on Rt. 589) where the Lauren Glick Band will be on tap for ghoulish fun. These guys always dress to kill adding to the fun of the night.
I’m happy to hear that Opposite Directions will be putting their full band together for a gig at the Steer Inn on Saturday night. I love these guys as as duo, so when they add drums, maybe another lead, or whatever, they even more exciting to hear. Check it out.
Saturday night will probably have me heading up to the Ocean Club for their second Halloween Costume Contest. That’s right! Dr. Berger and staff are generously staging two complete Halloween parties, Friday and Saturday, with a $500 cash prize for the winner each night ($110 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd). Synergy featuring the lovely and talented Katrina Love will provide the great dance music. It’s always a hoot watching people dance in their elaborate and sometimes outlandish costumes. Thanks in advance to Mercy for taking all the pictures for me there. Can’t wait to see what Batman does this year. Yeah, the Sheik thing is cool but how ‘bout an actual Batman costume? There’s bound to be some Jokers, right?
Don’t forget about the party at Whiskers Bar & Grill. Donnie will be at the helm as usual for a Friday night but the partiers will look quite different in their costumes. Prize money here, too.
Love Seed Mama Jump is playing Tuesday at Galaxy 66 and earlier in the evening you can hear Harry O & Joe Smooth at The Shark. My point ... there’s still lots of music going on, even on a week night. The Ocean Club will have live music Wed.-Sun., too. I won’t be around to clue you in, though, ‘cause this is the last weekly issue of 2008. It’s been a great summer of fun in the sun - and after dark. I can’t deny I’m looking forward to some time off but I’ll miss talking to all of you. Hopefully I’ll see you out having a good time this winter. Our next issue will come out Friday, Nov. 21, with all the pictures of all of you in your Halloween costumes. So, be looking for it and I’ll catch you later. Party Safe!
