
Ciao. Cassandra and I spent the Holidays in England this year. The weather was a bit chilly so we decided to head south to Rome and warm up. Our flight from London's Gatwick airport into Rome's Fiumicino (Leonardo Da Vinci) took about two hours. We caught a thirty-minute train from the airport that gave us an opportunity to see the suburbs and countryside along the way.
The train ended at Termini, on the west end of the city. Termini was the main transportation hub that connected the railway with the two underground metro lines. For one Euro apiece, we rode the metro to the Barberini station. We had booked a room through Expedia at Hotel Fontana. The Fontana was said to have an amazing view overlooking the Trevi Fountain and was recommended in the book "1000 Places To See Before You Die". Cassandra and I are glad to say we get a lot of positive feedback on our column. The number one question people ask us is, "How did you see so many places?"
The answer is easy - we worked on cruise ships. When Cassandra turned 18, she signed with Celebrity Cruise Lines and left England for the sunny shores of Los Angeles. She spent six years sailing around the world on Celebrity and Carnival ships. The contracts were usually 10 months at a time and during the breaks she would often spend time with other crew members before heading home to see her family. Eight weeks in the Greek Isles with Angelika and six weeks in Sicily with Mandy were her favorite getaways.
I first signed up with Holland America in 1998 and ended up spending three winters at sea during Ocean City's offseason. My contracts were usually 4-6 months. I worked on the Veendam, Westerdam and Elation before meeting Cassandra on Carnival's Ms Holiday....
